Truly a Mia Michaels Experience...

So this morning, we had a lesson with the Great Mia Michaels from 10 - 2. Yes...I'm one tired and sore puppy. But it is amazing the insight and straight-up love such a teacher can give. Today was the first time she had ever seen or heard of "color guard." A quote to that respect, "I had no idea that such a beautiful activity existed. I mean, you do everything I do, but with sharp and heavy things! I'm blown away." She then went on to say that she will consider getting involved in WGI. Yes...you read that right...an internationally known choreographer is interested in what you do!

She taught us a dance she used on the show and, once I get it down (sometime around next August!) I'll show it to you all.

EVERYONE will love this show we watched in a workshop today. You first need to familiarize yourself with the background by clicking here. Then you can watch the show by clicking here. And no...we can't do that this year. Maybe next year. ;)

I've heard great things about Friday's show. I can't wait to see you guys and get started feeding you some of the great knowledge I've gleaned this weekend. Winter season...all I can say is "watch out."

I love you all and will see you on Tuesday. Watch for Monday's email with all kinds of fun things!

Spinfest Update...

As would happen, my alarm didn't go off this morning so my ride called me at 6:15and woke me up. My flight was at 7:15. I packed and got ready in 20 minutes! Talk about expeditious! Now I'm stuck in ATL for an hour. Rain abounds as do delays.

My first class...Rifle Fundamentals. Click here for the class description list.

Thinking of you guys already!

Mr. and Mrs. Bookout have uploaded some more pics. My fave is below.

Confidence...

Confidence...it's a goal. To simply know what you're doing isn't enough. You must convince others through your attitude, your power, your confidence, that they should want to be a part as well.

One of the first professional performers I was ever introduced to was Luciano Pavarotti. I believe it was on an episode of "Live at Lincoln Center" that, initially, I witnessed the shear power behind this man's voice. I still remember sitting with Daddy in his big wooden chair (I was a young one at the time) and being absolutely taken aback by what I saw. This wasn't someone who was reading words off a page or just singing a song. This was someone, Pavarotti, pouring every ounce of his being into what he had been called to do. No one doubted that he was the best and that he was doing exactly what was in His plan.

The passing of such an amazing individual tearfully reminds me that everything has an expiration date and that the challenge of fulfilling life must be met head on. Not only will he be greatly missed for his paramount contribution to the world of opera, but also for his heart for humanitarian and peace-keeping endeavors.

A quote from London's Royal Opera House, "He was one of those rare artists who affected the lives of people across the globe, in all walks of life. Through his countless broadcasts, recordings and concerts, he introduced the extraordinary power of opera to people who perhaps would never have encountered opera and classical singing. In doing so, he enriched their lives. That will be his legacy."

Click here to watch this legend perform his signature rendition of Pucinni's Nessun Dorma from Turandot.

Now, you can click here to watch our friends from Hart County, KY perform their winter show to Nessun Dorma as well.

A different kind of "Dega Week"

Monday
  • Nada. Zip. Zilch. Void. Zippo. Nix. Zot. Diddly.
  • I might trek down to work in the Guard Room. If you're beyond bored and have nothing better to do, check the blog to see if I'm there. I have no idea what time it would be. Just check the blog.
Tuesday
  • Band Rehearsal, 3:15 - 5:30
  • Color Guard Sectionals, 6:15 - 8pm, Intermediate School Gym.
    • You can bring dinner or swing by somewhere on your way to the gym. Everyone must be ready to begin at 6:15. Remember, if you're going to be absent for sectionals, I must know a week in advance.
Thursday
  • Band Rehearsal, 6pm - 8pm
    • Color Guard needs to be at the field by 5:45 to get set up. Props will not be used.
Friday
  • ChHS at Talladega

    • Dinner will be supplied as usual.

Looking ahead...
