Band Camp II

Monday
  • Guard, 1pm-4pm Lunchroom
  • Band Camp, 5pm - 9pm

Tuesday

  • Guard, 1pm - 4pm Lunchroom
  • Band Camp, 5pm - 9pm

Wednesday

  • Guard, 4pm - 4:45 Outside Ms. Hooper's room. This is just to stretch before rehearsal.
  • Band Camp, 5pm - 9pm

Thursday

  • Guard, 2pm - 4pm Lunchroom
  • Band Camp, 5pm
  • Preview Show, 7pm (Performance Black)
  • Ice Cream Social to follow

I'm aware that you may not be able to attend the beginning of rehearsal, but please arrive as soon as possible. 5pm - 9pm is not optional and you must be 10 minutes early for any "Full Band" Rehearsal. Everyone should have a rifle and some a pink flag. Use this weekend to go through what we've done and be ready to move on come Monday. I will be at the school by 10am each day, so if you'd like to come practice, be my guest.

Be sure you always have appropriate rehearsal attire, all equipment, and water. I would also suggest a snack. On each day (except Wed.) between Guard and Band Camp, you will have exactly an hour for dinner.

Your attitudes so far have been wonderful. Don't let the heat, amount of time you spend listening to "Judy," or the frequency of the "One more time!" response get to your nerves. It's crunch time ladies. My goals for this week... 1) Finish opener with drill and work 2) Finish the Ballad, completely 3) Solidify ending after the swing flag If you're not able to attend the above Color Guard rehearsals at the times listed, just let me know. I'm off to the lake for some potato salad. Have a great weekend!

Band camp update...

Everyone is well and, from what I can tell, enjoying themselves. The weather is the best I've ever experienced during band camp (and I've been through a few). No rain, no blistering heat, no swarms of June Bugs. All is well.

A reminder from our esteemed Band Booster President, The Honorable, Ever Encouraging, Original (drum roll.....) Mr. Danny Coleman!

Thanks to everybody that has so far been willing to help out...This is what we have so far....

Ken Kendrick............hamburger buns

Donna Coleman.........baked beans

Teresa Vick..............paper plates/forks/spoons

Julie Polke................tea/chips

Brenda Boulware.......canned soft drinks

Julie Bookout............mayo, mustard, ketchup

Susan McNabb..........cookies (lots of them)

Devida Moore.............brownies

Mike Morrison............cookies/brownies

Vickie Daniel.............hot dog buns/cookies

Diane Johnson...........onions/tomatoes

As of this moment, we can plan on cooking 100-125 hamburgersand about 100 hot dogs. Richard Johnson has volunteered to drive the grills from the concession stand to camp. We will begin preparing/cooking food around 4pm so that the kids can eat around 5pm...

As of right now, Julie Polke, Richard Johnson, and Jimmy Boulware have volunteered to help cook...They could use some help. You can let Richard know if you can help at 678-8585 or email me and I will pass it along to him. If you need me to come by and pick up your food supplies, let me know. If you are bringing your stuff to the camp, please have it there by 4:45 at the latest, earlier is better...kids will be ready to eat at 5:00pm....We will be cooking out at the pavilion which is just beyond and around the curve from the swimming pool.

Check out the Band's Blog by clicking the always available link to the right.

The Color Guard of Chelsea High would like to request your thoughts and prayers for the family of Courtney Gay as her father, Rick, begins his recovery from a recent traffic accident.

I hope to see everyone soon. Have a wonderful week!

The 100th Post!

This is the blog's 100th entry! I think I'll celebrate with a nap. Everyone has endured an extremely tiring week of learning and pushing the envelope. The opener is 97% complete and we'll tackle the rest in the coming rehearsals. I must say how pleasant it is to instruct such willing and dedicated members. This is looking to be a wonderful season but we must continue to push forward, constantly increasing our ability.

Several reminders for the upcoming week...

  • Band Camp Registration runs from 6pm -8pm on Sunday. A parent/guardian must accompany their student.
  • All Color Guard members' forms are completed and have been forwarded to the Band Booster officers.
  • You must bring both flags, swing flag, and rifle to camp. They are your responsibility each day. You will have an equipment bag the moment they arrive.
  • Be sure to bring at least 2 sets of Rehearsal Black and a swimsuit for Pool-Barre.
  • Students may drive their vehicles to camp, but keys must be turned in to Lindsey before lights-out on Sunday. Remember, a parent/guardian must accompany their student.
  • Cookout on Thursday evening.

ATTENTION...

BRING YOUR RIFLE!

A week in the life of...

Monday - Friday

  • Summer Band II, 8am - 12noon, High School.
  • We will be in the Band Room. Each rehearsal will begin with a stretch and will most likely end with a run.
  • The Graduation Exam is being administered in the Auditorium this week. At no time after 8am can anyone go into the lobby. I will be there early tomorrow to move the equipment. You must be ready to start at 8am, so get there early.
  • Be sure you bring water and a healthy snack. Be mindful of what you eat prior to rehearsals and familiarize yourself with "Band Camp Survival," located in your handbook.
During Summer Band I and II, I will stay at the school after rehearsal to help anyone who wants it. Everyone is invited to have some personal practice time if they wish. I'll also be doing some work in the closet and prop work. If you'd like to stay after and help, be my guest.

Monday - Friday

  • Summer Band I, 8am - 12noon, High School.
  • We will begin in the lobby but come ready to run. Each rehearsal will begin with a stretch and then run. You must be ready to start at 8am, so get there early.

Saturday

  • DCI Atlanta
  • We will meet in the Band Room parking lot at 6:45 and will leave no later than 7am.
  • Your tickets are paid for but you are responsible for 3 meals, 2 of which may be had in the Dome.
  • I have no idea what time we will return. With the Prelim and Finals setup, it just depends. But everyone will call home once we hit the road. Parents, because of extreme construction along much of I-20 West, it will take us much longer to get home than it did to get to ATL.
  • If you would like to bring Lauren something, bring away.
  • Directions Here.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy 4th!

I hope everyone has a chance to spend time with family, friends, and some baked beans today! There will be a fireworks blow-out at Vulcan tonight, if anyone is interested. Also, some info on the American flag here.

Hug your parents and siblings.
