We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle

So far I have the following...
Alyson - Yes
* Black unitard, don't wear the collar. Just need your pants to be the same.
* Black logo t-shirt
* Blue warm-up jacket with zippers all the same.
* Black shoes
* White gloves of some description
* Earrings and make-up just like the fall
* Hair is half up/half down. Some curl in it wouldn't hurt either.
To enter the school, the lobby doors closest to the student parking lot will be open. Please take care of restroom issues upon arrival and be ready to begin at 4pm.
Wish me luck on my juries!

She taught us a dance she used on the show and, once I get it down (sometime around next August!) I'll show it to you all.
EVERYONE will love this show we watched in a workshop today. You first need to familiarize yourself with the background by clicking here. Then you can watch the show by clicking here. And no...we can't do that this year. Maybe next year. ;)
I've heard great things about Friday's show. I can't wait to see you guys and get started feeding you some of the great knowledge I've gleaned this weekend. Winter season...all I can say is "watch out."
I love you all and will see you on Tuesday. Watch for Monday's email with all kinds of fun things!

One of the first professional performers I was ever introduced to was Luciano Pavarotti. I believe it was on an episode of "Live at Lincoln Center" that, initially, I witnessed the shear power behind this man's voice. I still remember sitting with Daddy in his big wooden chair (I was a young one at the time) and being absolutely taken aback by what I saw. This wasn't someone who was reading words off a page or just singing a song. This was someone, Pavarotti, pouring every ounce of his being into what he had been called to do. No one doubted that he was the best and that he was doing exactly what was in His plan.
The passing of such an amazing individual tearfully reminds me that everything has an expiration date and that the challenge of fulfilling life must be met head on. Not only will he be greatly missed for his paramount contribution to the world of opera, but also for his heart for humanitarian and peace-keeping endeavors.
A quote from London's Royal Opera House, "He was one of those rare artists who affected the lives of people across the globe, in all walks of life. Through his countless broadcasts, recordings and concerts, he introduced the extraordinary power of opera to people who perhaps would never have encountered opera and classical singing. In doing so, he enriched their lives. That will be his legacy."

I'm aware that you may not be able to attend the beginning of rehearsal, but please arrive as soon as possible. 5pm - 9pm is not optional and you must be 10 minutes early for any "Full Band" Rehearsal. Everyone should have a rifle and some a pink flag. Use this weekend to go through what we've done and be ready to move on come Monday. I will be at the school by 10am each day, so if you'd like to come practice, be my guest.
Be sure you always have appropriate rehearsal attire, all equipment, and water. I would also suggest a snack. On each day (except Wed.) between Guard and Band Camp, you will have exactly an hour for dinner.
Your attitudes so far have been wonderful. Don't let the heat, amount of time you spend listening to "Judy," or the frequency of the "One more time!" response get to your nerves. It's crunch time ladies. My goals for this week... 1) Finish opener with drill and work 2) Finish the Ballad, completely 3) Solidify ending after the swing flag If you're not able to attend the above Color Guard rehearsals at the times listed, just let me know. I'm off to the lake for some potato salad. Have a great weekend!

Everything needs to be in the Band Room by 6:45 on Thursday. Thanks for your help!
Everyone is well and, from what I can tell, enjoying themselves. The weather is the best I've ever experienced during band camp (and I've been through a few). No rain, no blistering heat, no swarms of June Bugs. All is well.
A reminder from our esteemed Band Booster President, The Honorable, Ever Encouraging, Original (drum roll.....) Mr. Danny Coleman!
Thanks to everybody that has so far been willing to help out...This is what we have so far....

As of right now, Julie Polke, Richard Johnson, and Jimmy Boulware have volunteered to help cook...They could use some help. You can let Richard know if you can help at 678-8585 or email me and I will pass it along to him. If you need me to come by and pick up your food supplies, let me know. If you are bringing your stuff to the camp, please have it there by 4:45 at the latest, earlier is better...kids will be ready to eat at 5:00pm....We will be cooking out at the pavilion which is just beyond and around the curve from the swimming pool.

I do hope each of you were challenged and found inspiration during your stay. I also hope you were reminded of how important it is to always be kind, appreciative, and hospitable. You, as always, make myself, your parents, and your program very happy to call you "our own."

A poem I found...
You are my mother and my friend, Which is unusual. Somehow our characters must blend: Your wisdom and my will.
I turn, and you are there for me; I speak, you understand. I feel cared for, but also free; You lead but don't command.
I'm fortunate that I was born To someone just like you; I love you, not just as my mom, But for what you are and do.
Mother, I love you.~Lindsey Harrison

The Color Guard will utilize loud colors and patterns and, for the first time, feature every member on rifle! Click HERE for more show information including recordings and possible flag designs.
Be sure to catch one of these dynamic performances!

Click on the above link for photos of seasons passed. All you have to do is create a Walgreen's account (it's free) and then you can order whatever you wish from the site! Let me know if you have any questions. :)
As our guest speaker spoke of his son who battled cancer, he broadened the topic by titling his sermon "Overcoming Unexpected Trials." I listened to Psalm 18 (titled "God:An Absolute Leader in a Relative World" in my study Bible) clutching the pew bible- closed, my heart- paused. Here is what hit home the most:
28For You will light my lamp: The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. 29For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. 30As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. It was then that I began to recall everything that has transpired. It is no question that everything happens for a reason. We were refocused as we left the concerns about numbers behind and focused on the true purpose and experience. A flood of emotion came over me and, let's just say it is a good thing there was a box of tissue on my bench.
I love each of you (parents too!) more than you can possibly imagine.
Just in case you missed some of last night... Ladies, Parents, Supporters...It is with a grateful heart that I construct this message. This has been a season of growth and challenge, of pain and love, of success and reflection. I could not ask for a better group of people with which to work.
Parents, you've met me more than half-way every time. You know what it takes and how to get there. You have granted your daughters' talents to me and helped to guide them all season. While many may see this as a "one-man-show," it is not at all. It takes us all becoming integral parts of this organization to achieve the product desired.
Ladies, ladies. Where to begin? Let us go back to June 15th. I was amazed at how each and every one of you looked familiar. Little did I know that the familiarity would soon become infectious. I had no idea where Chelsea was, what was there (or wasn't), or what to expect from the students. Since day one, you, the eight members before me, have jumped at every chance to succeed. It is with sincere pride that I can say that "I've never had a discipline problem" and "I have the best students ever."
I don't think I will never have another group of individuals with whom I have shared such personal experiences as have occurred this winter season. You've brought myself and many others to tears with your passion, your heart, and your spirit. You have allowed me to introduce, or throw (whichever you prefer), you to the activity and you've made more of a positive impact than most will ever accomplish.
We, all of us together, have successfully completed an entire year of "The Sport of the Arts." We have set tremendous precedents and laid the foundation for great things to come. This program is a family.
To my seniors: I hope you will take some of the lessons learned this past year and apply them to your future. Don't be strangers. You're always welcome to rehearsals and performances. As of May 24th, you are no longer my students but my friends.
To my non-seniors: Get ready! Many have asked, "When will we compete in Nashville?" My honest reply, "As soon as we're ready." We will never take a step back, but rather a look back and remind ourselves from whence we came. Then, we look forward to the future...our future.

Ladies, you consistently make me and your supporters ever so proud. Your performances were stellar and moving. One of you mentioned today "When the last note was played, I knew that I had given my best and that everyone around me did the same." You should always perform as though it is your last. Don't ever hold anything back.
We'll go through the recap at Thursday's rehearsal and set our goals for this weekend.
